SLC Meter awarded contract to implement 10,000 SM700  meters and the Mega-Net AMI system  for the City of Inkster.

"It wasn't the least expensive proposal, but it was the best long term value" said the city public works director, Carl Brooks.

After Several delays and postponements, the water meter replacement program is underway in Inkster. Stuck with an obsolete pulse type reading system that was no longer supported by the manufacturer and a 25% water loss, the City made the decision to research technologies and develop a request for proposal. The RFP was released in late 2010 and took several months to review the responses, check references and make a decision.  "We had one shot to get this right and we didn't want to miss anything" said Brooks.

Phase one of the project began in early September with the installation of the "fixed network infrastructure". This is the technology backbone that consists of a data base and the two repeaters which gather the meter readings and forward them to city hall. The network was up and verified within days. The next phase consisted of replacing the old mechanical type commercial meters with new high accuracy Elster evoQ4 solid state meters. Within a month after installation, the revenue had nearly doubled.

The final phase includes replacing all residential meters which began in january and is expected to be complete by the end of August.  "We are very pleased with SLC. They are a great partner and have been there every step of the way" said brooks.

In Memoriam:  Carl Brooks, Public Works Director for the City of Inkster passed away suddenly on February 8, 2012 at the age of 54. Carl was our friend for over 30 years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

ADVANCED METERING INFRASTUCTURE... and more.

State-of-the-Art Meter & Distribution Management System.

The only true end to end wireless solution.

When it comes to aquiring and managing meter and distribution system information, nothing performs like MEGA-NET.

All other fixed network systems require elaborate and expensive data collection networks, third party  communication agreements and "Boost, Buddy or Tri-Mode" for their end points.  MEGA-NET stands alone as the only AMI system that does not require any of these.

Highly intelligent, fully intuitive and yet user friendly. MEGA-NET is like having your own personal asisstant to give you the information you need, when you need it.

Click on "READING SYSTEMS" above to see why MEGA-NET is the #1 choice of  small and large utilities alike that have compared the difference of AMI  technologies.
